Youth Sports Support

From Peter Maroon, FCUSD Director of Athletics & Physical Education

I hope you are all keeping your spirits up and motivating your staff! Believe it or not, it has been 15 days since we started this year, only 165 days to go! I wanted to share some great news to support students and families.

We know that participation in youth sports is an integral part of our students development and success in schools. Youth sports programs provide tangible rewards, including health benefits, enhanced academic success, learning life skills, improved attendance at school and achieving personal growth. During this pandemic, we have seen a huge decrease in participation in youth sports, as you can imagine for various reasons.

Help identify students that would benefit from after-school activities. If youth sports is in the child best interest, we don’t want anything holding them back. With that in mind, FCUSD has worked with our community partners to remove any financial challenges.

The Rancho Cordova Athletic Association (RCAA), the Folsom Athletic Association (FAA) and our partnership with Every Kid Sports (everykidsports.org) have all pledged to support youth sports for our students.

In Folsom, parents can go to FAA folsomathleticassociation.org see what spots are available and register their child. If they are in need of financial assistance, they can go to this link folsomathleticassociation.org/youth-assistance-program and request a scholarship.

In Rancho Cordova, parents can go to RCAA rcathletics.org see what sports are available and register their child. If they need financial assistance, the youth league can help them get fees waived or youth scholarship assistance.

In addition, FCUSD has partnered with Every Kid Sports, sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods and Under Armour to provide financial assistance to parent with youth sports everykidsports.org.

Please help me get the word out about this opportunity. I truly believe that participation in sports helps our students reduce behavioral problems, reduce discipline referrals and build more pro-social attitudes toward school. Our goal is to increase participation in youth sports. With your help we can do it!

Thank you all for all you do,

Peter Maroon
